Erik entered reluctantly, his posture stiff and proud. Reserved, as if on his guard from everything. He avoided patients, ignoring their presence entirely, and zeroed in on Martha.

"I am here," he said, as if to say Fine, are you happy?

Erik did as promised, though when he arrived it was in shirtsleeves and trousers, not in his habitual evening wear and cloak.
